Integrating Digital Financial Services into Agricultural Value Chains in Bangladesh
THEME: Scaling Technology and Innovation for Agriculture
DATE: Tuesday, March 28
TIME: 2:45 PM
LOCATION: Ballroom 2
This session will explore the opportunities for using digital financial services (DFS) in agricultural value chains using case studies from Bangladesh. There are strong implications that DFS in AVC in Bangladesh can provide smallholder farmers with the access to finance they need to increase productivity. FHI 360 has conducted multiple analyses looking at DFS for agricultural value chains within Bangladesh and is helping to facilitate the deployment of new DFS products, along with the practical experience from a financial service provider (Bank Asia) and an agricultural development implementing organization (DAM) who have recently launched a micro-credit product for smallholder farmers tied to a debit card that can be used to make purchases at agro-input retailers. Participants will learn to understand the potential benefits of using DFS in agricultural value chains and how to effectively deploy relevant services.
