THEME: Improving Sustainability and Food Security of Urban Markets
DATE: Monday, March 27
TIME: 2:45 PM
LOCATION: Ballroom 1
The Rice Bowl Index (RBI) is an open data platform that assesses robustness of food security systems focused on four rubrics of demand and price, policy and trade, farm level and environmental factors. The RBI supports focused dialogue and action on food security between governments, the private sector and other stakeholders. This session will highlights three perspectives on how the private sector can impact food security with presentations from USAID, Syngenta, and Chemonics representatives. The USAID-SOLID project in Sri Lanka works to facilitate the rural to urban linkages for the dairy sector. Syngenta will provide greater insight into policy changes that can be made to optimize adoption of technology for smallholders and support trade flows in emerging markets. Participants will learn about each of the initiatives and have the chance to delve further into specific food security challenges in Asia through group work.
