Food Smart Cities in Ecuador, Honduras and Belgium
THEME: Facilitating Links from Rural to Urban Parts of a Supply Chain
DATE: Monday, March 27
TIME: 1:00 PM
LOCATION: Ballroom 3
VECO’s Food Smart Cities Cluster focuses on the importance of transparency along the food chain, emphasizing the need for lifelong learning among the stakeholders involved and the participation mechanisms. VECO’s work on food smart cities, particularly in Quito (Ecuador), Tegucigalpa (Honduras), and Gent (Belgium) seeks to devise strategies that enable multistakeholder platforms to jointly build and implement policies and actions in favor of an integral urban food policy. The municipalities and VECO aim at influencing the international agenda based on solid evidence, while encouraging governments to source from local supply chains and engaging private companies, farmers’ organizations, and consumers. Each city presents unique approaches to promote inclusiveness, cooperation and sustainability in the food chain and this session intends to share inspiration to move forward.
