Empowering Female Sales Agents in Ghana, Afghanistan, and Pakistan
THEME: Facilitating Links from Rural to Urban Parts of a Supply chains
DATE: Tuesday, March 28
TIME: 1:00 PM
LOCATION: Ballroom 3
The Greater Rural Opportunities for Women (GROW) Project is a market-based food security project that focuses on facilitating linkages of women farmers engaged in the soybean value chain—including production, marketing, processing—and linking them to other value chain actors. In 2015, GROW introduced the concept of women Sales Agents (SA) in Ghana following success in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The introduction of this concept has allowed women to connect with input suppliers, financial and non-financial service providers and markets. They can also act as aggregators at the community level and then link to the processors and other buyers. Participants in this session will learn how Sales Agents can help women farmers' access information, inputs, and services they need, and more importantly, how they can be connected to high value markets located in the urban centers. They will also learn how this model functions as a tool for women's empowerment.
